Bluegrass and BBQ

I attend Emory Presbyterian and after Hurricane Katrina, we held a BBQ and Bluegrass festival to raise charitable contributions to help the victims of the disaster. Now it has become a tradition. Each year we raise money for service projects including the MLK Service Project.
The Southeastern Bluegrass Association provides the musicians and several of our church members smoke chicken, pigs, pork, and beef. The event lasts all weekend with cooking all night Friday and Saturday. We feed 600+ folks with Bluegrass playing in the background all afternoon (4 or 5 hours). The Agnes Scott Choir also sings for the event. Weo have face painting and inflatables for kids.
This year the DeKalb County Fire Department brought over their new hook and ladder truck. The Bluegrass BBQ is usually the first weekend in October and the $7 per plate raises money for various charities. The original money was for repairs on a Katrina housing refuge. We housed a few families for 6 to 8 months. Come and join us next year, won't you?

Jymbellyn Surprise Party

On January 31, the Service Desk threw a SURPRISE party for Jymbellyn Carthon (Call Center) as she changed positions over to the Infrastructure Messaging Team as an Enterprise Messaging Administrator. She had been with the Call Center for a year-and-a-half, and working at the Service Desk for two-and-a-half years.
Planned by Sharon Gregory and Geneva McCants (Call Center), Jymbellyn thought she was attending a meeting and instead found a conference room full of food, cake, and balloons. Members of the Service Desk and Call Center came by to send best wishes to Jymbellyn, as well as Betty Hickey, a supervisor from Emory Hospital Midtown who had worked closely with her on several projects.
